Brandon Nimmo, an outfielder for the New York Mets, will miss Monday night's game against the Washington Nationals after fainting in his hotel room overnight and injuring his head.
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza elaborated on the incident, noting that Nimmo cut his forehead but did not sustain a concussion. "He went through all of the tests this morning," Mendoza explained. "I wanted to make sure we didn't miss anything. Fortunately, everything came out negative, so I believe we got lucky there.
The Incident
Nimmo described the event, stating that he awoke at 5:15 a.m. I am feeling ill. He went to the restroom, cramped up, and fainted. When he regained consciousness, he discovered himself bleeding from the head and was unaware why. Nimmo quickly contacted the Mets' trainers, who went to his room to help him.
Medical Evaluation
Nimmo was transported to the hospital on Monday for examinations, which included a CT scan. He arrived at the ballpark before the game and chatted with media while wearing a bandage on his forehead. As a precaution, he will not be ready to play on Monday night, but he expects to return shortly. "He's got a pretty big cut," Mendoza said.
