Negotiations and Final Deal
According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, talks to keep Lowry in Philadelphia have accelerated over the past week as Lowry contemplated his options. On Thursday, Daryl Morey, the president of basketball operations for the 76ers, finalized an agreement to retain veteran player Kyle Lowry for an additional season. The deal's value has not been disclosed.
After joining Philadelphia in February, the seasoned guard has averaged 8.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists in 23 games. This previous season, Lowry started 20 games and averaged just over 28 minutes per contest.
Chasing a Championship
Alongside Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and newly signed Paul George—who this week agreed to a $212 million max contract with the Philadelphia 76ers—Lowry will now spend the upcoming season chasing a championship.
Following two and a half seasons with the Miami Heat, Lowry was acquired by the 76ers. Lowry played nine seasons with the Toronto Raptors before moving to Miami, where he won an NBA title in 2019. The point guard was named an All-Star six times, having done so for six consecutive seasons between 2015 and 20. In terms of assists, triple-doubles, steals, and 3-pointers, Lowry leads the Raptors all-time.
